Designing Education Outreach Programs
This workshop series is for graduate students interested in developing education programs for K-12 and public audiences. Given in the winter quarter 2012, the series includes instruction and practice in planning the program, choosing the audience, creating assessment-based activities, and leading undergraduates in piloting the program in spring quarter.
Collaborative Decision-Making for Conservation Scientists
We led a hands-on workshop for conservation and ecology graduate students in fall 2011 to explore the role of emerging ecologists and conservation scientists in stakeholder-based environmental decision-making.
Science Communication and Policy Development
The Washington D.C. Heinz Center Institute for Science Communication and Policy Development in collaboration with JMIE in September 2010 sponsored a week-long workshop on science and policy communication for academic and agency scientists. UC Davis graduate students participated.
Exploring New Opportunities for Educating Conservation Professionals
The John Muir Institute of the Environment sponsored an all-day symposium to examine how universities can better prepare graduate students for careers with conservation organizations. Leaders of the most prestigious conservation organizations worldwide came to the Davis campus on May 17, 2010 to share their ideas and experiences with UC Davis audiences in person and with other academic institutions through a webcast.
